"When you discover your mission, you will feel its demand. It will fill you with enthusiasm and a burning desire to get to work on it.”
- W. Clement Stone
"Mauya!" That means "welcome" in Shona, a bantu language spoken in Zimbabwe and parts of Southern Africa. Shona is also my mother tongue.
My initial goal for creating this website was to present my professional profile online, something like a longer version of my CV. I had imagined it would be one page affair, but it has evolved into something else, I don't know what to call it. It has become a living platform about language, culture, experiences and thoughts. Any part of it that feels a bit self-centred might be some remainders of my original plan. This website is also linked to my blog, a space for sharing resources and tips related to learning language, particularly Shona and English. You will also find posts about communication in a cultural context. I need to mention that this, though it might not look like that now, is the intended direction. A haystack of Information We live in an age where access to information has become not just a necessity, but also the norm of our daily existence. Through access to google, youtube, blogs, forums and many other platforms, we solve problems and make decisions about our day to day experiences. Having huge sources of information to dig through can, however, pose problems in itself sometimes, for example not knowing where to start. Sometimes, to be able to find the right information, one needs to first know what exactly they are looking for and what information is missing. This is a common challenge faced by most of my students and a. umber of people in general that I have met. To help solve the problem, I created this site as a way of spinning back into circulation what I myself have learnt, discovered and also what I still wonder about. The goal is to not only share material, but to also welcome the possibility of sharing views and insights about it with you. This site could be the right place for you who gladly likes discovering tips and resources (paid or free), that help you put your best foot forward in your professional and broader life. Sounds good ? Well let´s find out. Where do we begin?- With getting acquainted I suppose. |
